Silicon Carbide (SiC) is extremely hard and sharp particles. This allows the abrasive to bite directly into hard carbides rather than riding over them, leaving a crisp, flat bevel and a razor-sharp apex if your into this kind of thing.

Bench Workflow Recommendation:

High-Carbide Super Steels: Use after your initial ceramic apexing pass. Run light pressure (not even the weight of the knife if you are capable) to set a clean, uniform bevel, thin out the burr, and prepare the apex for final cleanup on a bench strop.
