1x30 Sharpening Belts
The 1x30 is the workhorse of home and pro knife sharpening — and the belt you run on it matters more than the machine. Every belt here is one I use in the Get Sharp shop on real customer knives. They fit any standard 1" x 30" belt sander, including the Harbor Freight / Central Machinery 1x30, BuckTool 1x30 models, Rikon 50-161VS, KFMK and Vevor 1x30 sanders.
Not sure where to start? Here's my progression:
- Prep the blade: Scotch-Brite to lay down a satin finish, hide unsightly scratches, and ease the spine and other sharp 90° corners.
- Reprofile & repair: Cubitron II, Cubitron III, or MagnaPeak ceramic (P36–P120) for chips, broken tips, and new bevels.
- Set the edge: 3M Trizact A45 → A30 for a clean apex with a minimal burr.
- Refine: Silicon Carbide P600/P1000 for super steels.
- Finish: A felt stropping belt, a paper wheel, or a leather belt or wheel, depending on the steel.
Or skip the guesswork with the 1x30 Go-To 3-Step Bundle.
