8" Yellow Airway Buffing Wheel | 16-Ply Mill-Treated, 5/8" Arbor
A Medium-Firm Airway Buff for Polishing and Finishing
This 8" yellow airway buff is a medium-firm cotton wheel for the polishing and coloring stages of your work: bringing up a clean, bright finish on blade faces, removing light scratches, and polishing out tools after sharpening.
The pleated "airway" construction lets air move through the wheel as it spins, so it runs cooler than a solid sewn buff. That matters when you're working close to a finished edge and don't want to build heat.
Why an Airway Buff:
-
Runs Cooler: The pleated design pulls air through the wheel, helping keep both the buff and the workpiece cooler.
-
Medium Firmness: The yellow mill treatment gives a medium stiffness, softer than blue and firmer than an untreated white buff. It's built more for coloring and finishing than heavy cutting.
-
Holds Compound Well: Load it with your polishing compound of choice for a high-luster finish.
-
Steel Center Plate: A welded steel center keeps the wheel true and mounts cleanly on a 5/8" arbor.
Safety: Check Your Machine Speed
-
Max 3,000 RPM. Many standard bench grinders run at 3,450 to 3,600 RPM, which is faster than this wheel is rated for. Use it only on a buffer, a variable-speed grinder or polisher set at or below 3,000 RPM, or a slow-speed machine.
-
Use a safety flange on each side to support the center plate and keep it from warping. SOLD SEPERATELY
-
Always buff on the lower front quarter of the wheel with the edge trailing (pointing away from the direction of rotation), and wear eye protection.
