MagnaPeak™ Ceramic Abrasive Belts [1x18, 1x30, 1x42, 2x42, 2x48]
Every professional sharpener knows the sinking feeling of taking a brand-new, premium ceramic belt to a square steel spine, reprofile the edge, a rusted mower blade, or a jagged chipped edge, only to watch the expensive abrasive get instantly sheared off the backing. Some jobs are just belt-wreckers.
The MagnaPeak™ Series solves that problem. I tested belt packs from several leading suppliers on the toughest super steels we own, looking for a highly aggressive, high-output ceramic that hits like a heavyweight but is cost-effective enough to do the dirty work.
These aren't just belts I sell; these are the specific "guilt-free" abrasives anchored on my bench for when I need to hog out massive amounts of steel or hit square angles without destroying my premium finishing belts.
The MagnaPeak™ Grit Progression:
-
P36: The "Proceed With CAUTION"
-
Best For: Rapid stock removal, heavy profiling, and aggressive geometry reshaping. Strictly for knife makers and heavy repairs.
-
The Performance: During our testing, the jagged mountain profile of the P36 was the only design that consistently hogged the hardest steels while actively resharpening itself. As you grind, the ceramic particles break apart under pressure, continuously revealing new sharp points to keep the belt cutting aggressively without glazing.
-
-
P60: The Aggressor
-
Best For: Thinning blades, quick reprofiling jobs, and repairing heavy edge damage. (Note: Too aggressive for apexing a new edge).
-
The Performance: The sharp peak profiles of the P60 ceramics effortlessly bite into the hardest knife steels. You can move material incredibly fast while the belt design helps mitigate overheating, protecting the temper of the blade.
-
-
P120: The Refiner
-
Best For: Precision thinning, bevel refinement, and complex geometry modification.
-
The Performance: I selected the P120 as the perfect follow-up to the P60. It features a consistent, high-density ceramic coating that erases coarse scratches while maintaining a cool workpiece temperature. It provides the clean, uniform foundation needed before moving to your final sharpening stages. Mountlake Sharpening in Alberta, Canada swears these last longer than Cubitron II. I've personally apexed over 200 knives on one 2" belt.
